The warmer weather is the perfect time to get your boat out, whether it be sailing, rowing, or motor boating, and enjoy a bit of leisure on the water. But when winter sets in, you’ll need somewhere to store your investment. A dedicated storage space will do just that!
Sheds and freestanding garages are reliable structures for the job. In this guide, we’ve put together some of our best units that work great as boat storage. Have a look below to see which one suits your needs best:
BillyOh Aston Wooden Garage
We’re starting our list with the Aston, a wooden garage designed for various vehicles. This makes it versatile, able to house anything from a car or SUV to your cherished boat.
With a depth of 18’9”, it can fit an average boat or canoe up to 16 feet in length. The generous lockable double doors (7’9” x 6’2”) at the front add to the convenience. But there’s more—the side door also comes in handy for quick trips and easy access whenever needed.
Aston is designed with durability in mind. It features 44mm thick interlocking walls, metal brackets at the base, and an 11mm roof. This construction guarantees your boats, motorbikes, or whatever you park inside ultimate protection from the harsh winter weather and prying eyes.
It also comes pressure-treated as standard and has a 15-year BillyOh guarantee against decay, rot, and insect infestation. Your boat deserves a structure like this!
Please note that it doesn’t come with flooring, so you’ll need to sort out a stable, level shed base first. On the bright side, this makes it easier to roll a boat trailer in and out smoothly, as there’s nothing in the way.
Metal Garage for Boat Storage
If you’re after something a bit lighter and compact, a metal vehicle storage unit could be just what you need! A full-sized metal garage with at least 13’9” depth is ideal for small motorboats, sailing boats, or rowing boats. With 182 square feet of floor space (slightly more than your average parking bay), you’ll have plenty of room to work or store various items.
The galvanised steel will stand up to heavy rain, windstorms, and hail, keeping your boats protected inside. The vents at the front and back ensure good airflow and help reduce moisture buildup. This feature keeps the inside dry, preventing damage from damp and frost. Use the sliding door at the back of the garage for easy on-foot access – perfect for when you just need to nip into the garage to fetch something.
Like the Aston, a metal garage is typically a freestanding model with no flooring.
BillyOh Expert Tongue and Groove Apex Workshop
This garden workshop comes in a variety of sizes, with 20×10 being its biggest one—perfect for parking your boats. It offers 19’5” depth and 10’5” width, which can fit at least one small boat, or possibly two, depending on their size, or a larger one within those dimensions.
The BillyOh Expert features wide-opening double doors (3’8” x 5’8”) and ample headroom. As it’s a shed workshop, it features a built-in 11mm timber floor, unlike the first two garage models. While this isn’t usually an issue, you’ll want to be extra careful when storing boats, especially with a trailer. You might need to lift or manoeuvre it carefully to avoid any damage to the floor or the boat.
The rest of the unit’s construction shows it’s built to be a reliable boat garage, not just through winter but all year round. It boasts strong interlocking T&G panels paired with durable 28x28mm framing. This ensures longevity and resilience against the harshest British weather overall.
